林書豪以3年3600萬美元加盟籃網，新球季將是先發控球後衛的第一人選，總教練艾金斯（Kenny Atkinson）21日表示，林書豪在黃蜂是擔任肯巴沃克的替補，籃網提供給他更大的發揮空間，因此希望他能扮演NFL四分衛角色，領導大家往前邁進。
林書豪在紐約尼克演出「林來瘋」時，艾金斯是球隊助理教練，對於林書豪有著深刻了解，同時也知人善任。
根據《ESPN》報導，艾金斯受訪時說，林書豪上季在黃蜂時主要是擔任替補，來到籃網有所不同了，希望林書豪可以蛻變成為球隊的領導者。
雖然林書豪防守能力飽受外界質疑，但艾金斯強調，林書豪努力與進步有目共睹，他也確實被外界低估了，所以他更要用行動來證明自己。
艾金斯認為，這是林書豪職業生涯的最佳發展機會，而且他是一位籃球智商相當高的球員，只要給他揮灑舞台就會成為一個絕佳領導者。
